Expanding access to fixed-income instruments through seamless feature integration
Client Overview
The client is a fintech company operating a mobile trading platform that had already gained traction among retail investors. The app originally supported trading in equities, ETFs, and forex – positioning itself as a fast, user-friendly option for active investors.
As the user base matured, there was growing demand for more stable, fixed-income investment products – particularly from conservative investors seeking predictable returns. In response, the client decided to introduce government bond trading into the existing platform.
Challenges Faced
Bringing government bonds into a retail-focused mobile environment required more than simply adding a new asset class. Fixed-income instruments come with their own pricing logic, yield calculations, and market dynamics – none of which overlap neatly with equities or forex.
At the same time, regulatory expectations were different. Government securities trading involves stricter identity verification, tax reporting, and compliance obligations.
From a product perspective, presenting bond data in a way that was both informative and mobile-friendly added another layer of complexity. The platform also had to scale to handle heavier data loads and support responsive charting and comparison features without compromising on performance.
The core challenge was strategic: how to introduce a sophisticated product into a mobile-first experience without alienating users or overwhelming the system.
eLando’s Solution
Our approach focused on creating a frictionless experience for users while ensuring the underlying infrastructure could support the new demands.
We worked closely with the client to design a bond trading module that fit naturally into the app’s existing structure – adding new capabilities without disrupting what already worked.
We built the solution to be modular, secure, and responsive. The user interface was designed to accommodate the complexity of bonds while remaining intuitive. Key workflows, like order placement and comparison, were kept clean and familiar.
We also prioritized education and transparency, embedding content to help users understand fixed-income investments and build confidence in their decisions.
The development process was iterative, with ongoing feedback from both financial experts and test users guiding key decisions. Regulatory needs were addressed early in the process, ensuring a smooth rollout without compliance setbacks.
Results & Impact
The bond trading feature was well-received by both new and existing users. Within the first month, over 40% of active users explored the new functionality, with government bonds representing more than a quarter of trading volume by the third month.
The app also attracted a wave of new users aligned with a more conservative investment profile, contributing to a noticeable bump in premium subscriptions.
Operationally, the app continued to perform reliably despite the added data complexity. Order execution times remained low, and no regressions were reported in existing trading functionality.
By addressing user education, compliance, and performance from the start, the rollout delivered results without post-launch rework or user confusion.
Conclusion
The successful integration of government bonds expanded the platform’s reach while reinforcing its position as a comprehensive tool for retail investors.
By balancing product complexity with usability, we helped the client tap into a new segment of users and lay the groundwork for future additions in the fixed-income space.
The project stands as a strong example of how fintech platforms can grow responsibly – meeting investor demand without compromising performance, compliance, or user experience.
